Zen Banyan Inspiration

Carissa and SuSun began to realize the need for a safe supportive platform for spiritual growth as they grew their own spiritual business Two Open Hearts. They ran into many students and friends seeking a deeper connection with others and seeking a place where they could be themselves and talk about things that weren't widely accepted yet by the majority of people. Once this thought was ripe for action ZenBanyan was born.

Banyan Trees are a beautiful symbol of community. There are many sacred Banyan trees, and Banyan trees are very, very closely related to the Bodhi Tree, which is where Buddha was said to reach enlightenment, The name Banyan refers to the market places and traders who set up underneath the shade of the great Banyan trees in India. These trees not only foster a real place where humans can gather to share community and knowledge but also themselves represent the growth of a strong community. Banyan trees grow very large sprawling canopies as well as deep roots. They sprout roots and new trees from their aerial limbs, growing to be large in size. The Great Banyan Tree is over 250 years old and covers about 14,500 square meters of land (3.5 acres) in the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Garden.

Zen as described in the thesaurus is a state of calm attentiveness in which one's actions are guided by intuition rather than by conscious effort

Together ZenBanyan became a beautiful symbol for the great sprawling, strong, and sharing spiritual community that is being built, cared for and manifested.
